Proven Viral Transfer Effect
DIATHOR was fully evaluated by Dr Alvaro Romero at the New Mexico State University who concluded, “This study shows that bed bugs can transfer DIATHOR to other members of the aggregation. This is an important finding as this is added value of the application of DIATHOR in field conditions. In essence this also suggests that it is not necessary that all individuals of an infestation have direct contact with DIATHOR to be killed.”
Dr Romero concluded, “DIATHOR can be recommended for bed bug management because, 1) it kills insecticide resistant bed bugs that are difficult to eliminate with liquid insecticide spray, 2) it can kill 100% bed bugs within 9 hours due to rapid and enhanced adhesion properties of DIATHOR particles to the bed bug body, and 3) bed bugs do not avoid treated surfaces.”
Controls Resistant Strains
One particular problem for pest managers is the lack of insecticides that have high efficacy against bed bugs, as insecticide resistance to a range of chemical classes has been identified (Lilly et al. 20091). This ensures that control is a major challenge. DIATHOR with its pesticide-free, physical mode of action, offers an effective solution against even the most resistant strains. Its mode of action limits the possibility of resistance developing due to its physical rather than chemical/ metabolic mode of action.

Dr Stephen Doggett of Department of Medical Entomology, NSW Department of Health reported “The results demonstrate several benefits of DIATHOR. The faster kill means that the client is less likely to suffer bed bug bites and the ensuing adverse health effects. A faster kill means that bed bugs are less likely to spread and infest other areas or adjoining premises/rooms in apartments or hotels.”
